about
I wrote the music for this song and the line, "I love you. I do," in Grade 7. It wouldn't be until the Summer of 2008 that the rest of the lyrics and song structure would fully take form.
Although fairly self-explanatory, Dollar Store Shoes in a poor man's love ballad. I still have those shoes, and they're a constant reminder that I'm lucky to love.
lyrics
Now I'm holding out,
For a better side of me,
Too late to look back down,
Made it this far in spite of me.
Maybe you'll say,
On that day,
"I love you. I do."
Taking off these dollar store shoes,
Gonna put my feet up for a while,
Ground myself on carpet shine,
Hoping that lack of sleep will make me smile.
Maybe you'll say,
On that day,
"I love you. I do."
It's not fair.
Time's not on my side,
So let me compare,
The status quo and my heart inside.
So, give me a week or two,
To find a better part of me,
Let me get back to you,
Give you the very heart of me.
Maybe you'll say,
On that day,
"I love you. I do."
